All you need to know about Multiple Sclerosis

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves.

  • Multiple Sclerosis has an unknown cause. It is considered an autosomal disease.

  • Symptoms include vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. The symptoms severity and duration can vary from person to person.

  • In MS, resulting nerve damage disrupts communication between the brain and body.

  • There is currently no cure for MR. Physical therapy and medications that suppress the immune system can help with symptoms and slow disease progression. Treatment consists of immunosuppressants (drugs or medicines that lower the body's ability to reject a transplanted organ).

Extra Information

Multiple Sclerosis is rare with fewer than 200,000 U.S. cases per year.

Four times as many women have MS as men.

MS was first discovered by Jean-Martin Charcot 1868.
