  • Infectious Mononucleosis also known as Mono is an infection with the Epstein-Barr virus.

  • The virus that causes mono is spread by saliva which is why some refer it as the kissing disease. You can also be exposed by sharing a glass or food utensils with someone who has Mono.

  • Symptoms of Mono can include fatigue, fever, rash and swollen glands. However, the elderly may not have typical symptoms.

  • For most people, symptoms subside after two to four weeks, though you may feel lingering fatigue and tire more easily for up to two months after symptoms go away. Most of the time you wont experience long-term effects of the illness.

  • Yes! Treatments involve, rest, fluids, and over the counter pain and fever reducing medicines to ease symptoms.
